Flashback, a hypnotic video collage of archival footage with pop culture imagery, is inspired by the subliminal messaging of 1970s advertising. In this work, Marco Brambilla blends historical references with cinematic tropes, investigating Freudian associations ranging from childhood memories to adult desires.
By alluding to familiar imagery that resurfaces in unexpected ways and playing with the notion of déjà vu, Flashback evokes contemporary visual culture while exploring themes of memory, nostalgia, and the relentless cycle of media consumption. Ultimately, it reflects on the power of images in shaping our collective consciousness.
